Core Purpose:
Reporting to the Service Operation Support Manager, the configuration manager will be the ambassador for any configuration management function. He will be responsible of establishing configuration management process, policies and participate in the definition, development and implementation of the regional CMDB. The Configuration Manager oversees the overall process, planning, identification of CI, relationship, status, verification and audit of the CMDB. The Configuration Manager is controlling the movement of Releases to test and live environments. His primary objective is to ensure that the integrity of the live environment is protected and that the correct components are released as plan with the proper knowledge.
NOTE: This is not a Software Configuration manager role.
Key Functions:

Functions as a subject matter expert in the definition, implementation and management of the Configuration management process, CMDB and discovery tool.

Plan and define the purpose, scope, objectives, policies and procedures, and the organizational and technical context, for Configuration Management.

Responsible for selecting and identifying the configuration data model and attributes for all the infrastructure’s CIs, including their ”owner”, “support information”, their technical relationships, their relationship to business services and configuration documentation. It includes allocating identifiers and version numbers for CIs, labeling each item, and entering it on the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).

Ensure that only authorized and identifiable CIs are accepted and recorded, from receipt to disposal. It ensures that no CI is added, modified, replaced or removed without appropriate controlling documentation, e.g. an approved Change request, and an updated specification.

Reporting of all current and historical data concerned with each CI throughout its life cycle. This enables Changes to CIs and their records to be traceable, e.g. tracking the status of a CI as it changes from one state to another for instance ”under development”, ”being tested”, ”live”, or ”withdrawn”.

Responsible for a series of reviews and audits that verify the physical existence of CIs and check that they are correctly recorded in the Configuration Management system.

Support, all Core ITSM function/process and other IT departments, from a Configuration management and CMDB aspect.

Recording, and reporting of IT components, including their versions, constituent components and relationships. Items that should be under the control of Configuration Management include application, infrastructure, network, database and all associated documentation.

Work in collaboration with CI Owner and system custodian to validate and control CI information.

Rollout, train and promote the Configuration Management process, policies and CMDB tool.

Responsible to ensure that Configuration Management interfaces directly with Change Management, Incident Management, Request Fulfillment and any future ITSM and IT functionalities. Control should be passed from the project or supplier to the service provider at the scheduled time with accurate configuration records.

Adherence to compliancy regulation

Using the ITIL/ITSM standards, own, drive adherence and continuously improve the maturity of the configuration processes and procedures.

Researches, reviews and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of procedures, and develops strategies for enhancing these processes in accordance with IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices
Required Skills and Competencies
-
10 to 13 years of IT background.
-
5 years of Service delivery experience in an outsourcer or outsourced IT environment.

Experience as a Configuration manager.

Definition and implementation of the configuration management process, discovery products and CMDB is a plus.

Must have knowledge and experience with ITIL core concepts v2 or v3. ITIL Certification is a plus.

Process Analysis, Design and Documentation Skills.

Broad technical knowledge of IT network, infrastructures and software.

Strong interpersonal skills with high degree of diplomacy, discretion, maturity and judgement.

Demonstrated leadership abilities within an IT delivery environment.

University or College degree or equivalent experience in IT.
-
Ability to effectively prioritize and meet multiple tight deadlines while working under minimum supervision.

Strong project management, organizational and planning skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
-
Self-motivated, dedicated, with a desire to learn.
-
Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours when required.

Must be fluent in English (Oral and written). French an asset.
